SELECT FINDS FROM BYLAZORA 2011
A tiny bronze bracelet.
Left:  slag, probably from a pottery
kiln, and burned wattle and daub.
These materials were found in a
destruction layer around the Iron
Age houses in Sector 3.
Right, a stone inscribed with Greek
letters.  We are still studying the
stone to determine what the
language of the inscription is.

A bronze spatula.
Dozens of loom weights were found
in the storage depot in Sector 3.
Two were stamped with the image of
the goddess Athena (the patroness
of weaving), holding an owl.

terracotta altar just under the
propylon ramp.

spout" jug.

Other Finds
In 2011 we were able to excavate into deeper, pre-Classical strata, which yielded pottery shapes and decoration that
we had not seen before at Bylazora.
Left, black glazed base
with scratched Greek
letters.
An iron hook.

inside a pithos in the storage depot in
Sector 3.
Stamped and Inscribed Finds
The rims of several pithoi (underground
storage jars) bore inscriptions, perhaps
denoting their contents and capacity.
Below, a limestone Doric capital.
A terracotta figurine of a woman.
In the excavation of the stoa in
Sector 6 we found examples of wall
plaster, including some painted red
and orange.
