The Texas Foundation for Archaeological & Historical Research
For the 2010 season at Bylazora (Sveti Nikole), TFAHR again conducted an International
Field School, sponsoring 25 participants from 11 countries: USA (Texas, California,
Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Washington), France, Norway,
Germany, Australia, Ireland, England, Scotland, Spain, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
Participants paid their own way to the site and TFAHR undertook the cost of their room,
board, tools, and equipment.
Team members contributed to all facets of the excavation program, including: excavation
work in the field; documentation of excavations; and processing of finds and pottery
(washing, drawing, documenting, restoration). Several team members also made evening

Field School volunteers had the
opportunity to work with the collection
in the People's Museum of Sveti
Nikole. A volunteer experienced in
collections management shared basic
principles of working with museum
TFAHR provided transportation for three weekend trips to:
- Vinica: the local museum, fortress, and emu farm
- Ohrid, with its medieval churches and Citadel
- the Roman site of Heraclea Lynkestis (Bitola)
- the Roman site of Stobi
presentations on such topics as: lime kilns in England; recent excavations at Pompeii, in England and the Middle East; pottery profile drawing;
and computer software for 3-D reconstruction and animation.
To work alongside the volunteers of the International Field School, TFAHR employed 10 workmen from Sveti Nikole and Knezje. TFAHR was
also joined by volunteers from the US Peace Corps who gave up vacation and free days to excavate with us at Bylazora.
