The Acropolis (Sector 3)
Digging to the
north and south of
the defensive wall.
Uncovering pottery in a
stratum under the
defensive wall.
Discovering the Ramp on the Acropolis
The stones proved to be the edge
of a wide stone ramp, leading to a
threshold (center of photo).
The stones in the lower left corner
were originally thought to be
curbstones for a street running
alongside the building with plaster
floors (upper right).
More "curbstones" appeared
further to the south.
The ramp uncovered toward its
intersection with the northern
defensive wall.
For four weeks, workers removed debris,
large stones and mud.  Seepage of
groundwater was controlled using the
donated resources of the local fire
brigade.  But the heavy rains of July 3 put
an end to excavating in the stone-lined
chamber for 2008.
The "squatters" who later occupied Bylazora left little in the way of architecture, but a large amount of pottery.

the season.

stratum which dated earlier
than the defensive wall.
